Ian Coulter, PhD is the Samueli Institute Chair in Policy for Integrative Medicine. He is also a Professor within the UCLA School of Dentistry, a Research Professor at the University of Southern California Health Sciences Center and a Health Consultant at RAND Corporation. Dr. Coulter is a senior medical sociologist with more than twenty years experience in conducting both qualitative and quantitative research on chiropractic with some 40 articles and two books published on this profession. He is the PI of the Evidenced Based Practice Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at RAND funded through the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality in cooperation with the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (i.e., the EBPC CAM project is a contract within the Southern California Evidenced Based Practice Center) and is the PI on a Case Study of Integrative Medicine funded by NCCAM. At UCLA, Dr. Coulter has served as the Director of the UCLA/Drew University Center for Minority Oral Health. He currently teaches the ethics and behavioral science courses in dentistry and the graduate UCLA/RAND Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program (a course in Qualitative Methods and one in Social Science Theory) in the medicine. Dr. Coulter has served on the NIH Cancer Advisory Panel for Complementary and Alternative Medicine and serves on the Advisory Committee for the NCCAM Center for Chiropractic Research and on the editorial boards of Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, Complementary Health Practice Review, and the Journal of Evidenced Based Dental Practice and is a reviewer for Spine, Medical Care, JMPT, Quality of Life Research, and Topics in Clinical Chiropractic.
